When the 289 was first designed she was built around the two stroke power plants, that being said we have had a few customer re-power with the new 225 and 250 four stroke outboards and have been very happy with the performance with the boat especially the mid range fuel economy. If you are looking to do a re-power I would highly recommend that you give Jeff at Exact Marine a call.
